Bitter gourd is a strange vegetable..(No offense to all the fans out there).Lets talk facts;It’s bitter and even looks strange.Moreover I am not too comfortable with its texture too..(I can see the angry faces of all the bitter gourd lovers).
Bitter gourd has always been a controversial grocery at home.Its the typical family story.He loves it no matter what and know how much she hates it.However she cooks it,there’s the verdict that the dish doesn’t fare well.Moreover he complains her hatred towards the bitter gourd makes the curry a flop!!Finally after an aha moment she realizes might be he is right..More love towards the poor vegetable isn’t harmful.
Then came this recipe to make the bitter better.I found a common ground which made me a fan of this bitter err better vegetable.Here is our Homemade Bitter gourd Fry which is so easy because it takes less time and so tasty that can change your view on this lovely vegetable (like me)!!
Ingredients
Bitter gourd – 6 (slice into thin rounds)
Garlic – 10 (pounded)
Curry leaves- handfull
Maida – 2tbsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Red chilly powder – 2 tbsp
Sambar
Powder – 3 tbsp
Salt – to taste
Oil – for deep fry
Procedure
1.Wash and pat dry the bitter gourd.Now slice them into rounds as thin as possible.
2.In the mean time heat the oil in a thick bottomed vessel.
3.Add 2 tbsp maida,1 tsp turmeric powder,salt,2 tbsp red chilly powder and 3 tbsp sambar powder to the bitter gourd pieces.Coat them well.
4.After the oil is hot fry the garlic and curry leaves till done and put aside.
5.In the same oil fry the coated bitter gourd till crisp or just brown.
6.Serve it after garnishing with garlic and the curry leaves fried earlier.
Notes
After coating the bitter gourd if the mixture is too wet, add another table spoon of maida.
Serves as a excellent side dish to dal, rasam or even as a snack.
